Project summary
Adelaide Oval has been the home of cricket and football in South Australia for over a century and is recognised around the world as a significant sporting venue.
The venue was being redeveloped to accommodate a greater array of sports and entertainment events, and increased crowd numbers. It was designed to form the cornerstone of a revitalised River Bank Precinct, and bring together the North Terrace commercial and theatre centre with the new sporting hub.
The Challenges
The redeveloped oval will see the creation of new grandstands to the south and eastern sides of the oval, along with a new administration building to the north. The redevelopment project calls for an interface with the existing Innotech DDC which controls HVAC services in the Western Grandstand, a project completed in 2009.
Putting all these existing and new elements together, and carefully integrating the unique and highly valued surrounding parklands into the composition, the Adelaide Oval will acquire a new found identity – one that forms a new and very dynamic entertainment focus for the city.
The Solution
The redevelopment project will also deliver a new Energy Monitoring and Management dashboard for the oval.
Alerton Australia installed a DDC system in the new grandstand providing HVAC control and monitoring for basement x2 + five upper levels. The Alerton DDC now controls:
- Central chiller/boiler with services delivered via a distributed FCU network serving public and corporate suites.
- Exhaust and economy cycle fans with CO2 control serving the basement car–park and change room facilities
- Connection of water and gas meters across the site
- Monitoring of multiple coolrooms and freezers
